On Tuesday, Foodies on the Fly decided to venture out of the office for lunch. With no destination in mind we headed east and after a short drive to Federal Highway we decided to try one of the many hamburger restaurants popping up in Ft. Lauderdale.
The lucky restaurant…BurgerFi.
BurgerFi (4343 N. Ocean Dr., 954-489-0110) owned by David Manero, (the restaurateur behind DeVito South Beach and Vic & Angelo’s and the Office in Delray) is a casual burger restaurant located in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, right on commercial and A1A.
The reasonably priced burger concept has an industrial feel with brightly colored tables and fascinating lighting fixtures made from meat hooks. The menu includes “All Natural Burgers”, “Hipster Dogs”, “Accessories” (fries and onion rings), and “Real Deal” Frozen Custard. Some items to consider are the BurgerFi Burger ($5.47) Double Natural Angus Burger, lettuce, tomato, and secret sauce. Chicago Dog ($3.97) A butterflied and griddle crisped all natural dog, served on a poppy-seed bun topped with mustard, neon relish, chopped onion, cucumber spears, tomato slices, sport peppers and celery salt. The menu also includes a few vegetarian options for those seeking a meat-free alternative, cupcakes for an on-the-go treat and craft beers and wine by the glass.
If nothing on the brightly lit LED menu catches your eye you can create your own burger masterpiece by choosing from over 20 toppings. And that is just what Foodies on the Fly did. We’re creative what can I say!
Our burgers of choice included one cheeseburger with white American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and grilled mushrooms. And one hamburger with lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and pickles. We requested the secret sauce on the side and we are glad we did! It’s worth trying. We also ordered a side of fresh-cut fries with Parmesan cheese and herbs and a “Real” Coca-Cola (made with real sugar cane in Mexico). Delicious!
Overall, we had a good experience and would recommend this restaurant if you are in the neighborhood. Be sure to try the Hand Spun Shakes or “Concrete”, we didn’t have a chance to indulge but are interested in hearing your opinions!
Tip: Parking can be tricky. Although there is parking up front and around the sides backing up onto A1A can be a hard task. Especially, if a huge truck is blocking your view! Thankfully the owner of the gigantic F-250 blocking our small car graciously helped us back out by stopping traffic. Shout out to the nice man in the pick-up truck!
